It’s a great week to be a kid

July 27, 2010

We’re excited to welcome a new bunch of campers this week, for our Session 5 “Kid’s Week.” Kids weeks are always fun, and have a slightly different feel from a “regular” week of camp. For one thing, all the campers are between the ages of 7 and 12. This is great because we can cater our activities, devotions, and the overall atmosphere to the needs of these younger campers. Also, its a day shorter than other weeks, ending on Thursday instead of Friday. Lots of kids who come to camp for the first time choose a kids week – its a great way to get used to being away from home!

We began our week with opening “campfire” – which was held inside due to bad weather. Still, we had a nice picture of a roaring fire on the big screen, just to help get us in the mood! We sung songs, watched skits, played games, and listend to our Male Leadership Director, Jonathan Sherbert, talk about what it means to be a part of God’s story!

On Monday the weather was perfect – great for morning rotations, cabin time, and free time in the afternoon. For our evening program, we had a POOL PARTY, complete with a limbo contest and belly-flop contest! Everyone enjoyed splashing around and having a great time.

During evening worship, we learned the motions to two songs, “Happy Day” and “You are the Rock!” Be sure to ask your kids how to dance along to these songs! It’s a LOT of fun!

Today is a rainy day. The forecast calls for scattered showers and an occasional thunderstorm throughout the day. In lieu of morning rotations, all the campers are currently making their way to the gym for some fun games. Depending on the weather, we may prepare some skits, sing some songs, and play more indoor games while it rains outside. Hopefully the weather will clear up by this evening for the SCAVENGER HUNT!

Everyone is having a great time, and we can’t wait for all the fun thats in store for the rest of the week!

Brian: We want to say how happy Antonio was when he returned from camp. He really enjoyed his time at Camp Oak Hill. He told me how great the counselors were and what great activities they had. He said he was ready to return next year. Thanks to you and your staff for giving him such a great stay at your camp. Thank you also for the hospitality that you showed to Gary and I during our intitial visit to the camp in the spring. Best regards from the both of us. Keep up the great work!
Best Regards, Nydia Walters (Antonio’s mom)..
