Happy 4th of July!

July 4, 2011

Whew, what a day! There’s nothing quite like spending July 4th at Camp Oak Hill! We ran into some holdups today – extreme heat, followed by an evening of rain – but that didn’t dampen our spirits! Everyone came out today sporting their best Red White & Blue attire, ready to celebrate another great day of camp, and of course the 4th of July!

Morning rotations went as regularly scheduled, then in the afternoon after rest time we brought everyone into the Activity Center for a movie to avoid being out in the heat during the hottest part of the day. The plan was then to open the pool, archery, riflery, and other activities for free time, but unfortunately some nasty rain clouds showed up and changed our plans. Instead we played gym games, opened camp store, and enjoyed hanging out together in the cool indoors.

Inclement weather also moved our scheduled cookout indoors, but we still enjoyed some great hamburgers, chips, and red & blue punch!

The big event of the day was this evenings 4th of July Carnival! We moved the events indoors to the gym and Activity Center, where we had a blast with all the traditional carnival games – ring toss, a “Hitchin Booth” for photos, soccer shoot-out, bingo, face painting, arm wrestling, and lots more! Below are some photos of the fun:

The day ended with some fireworks being set off on our dock as the campers headed back to their cabin for showers and devotions. We were initially  a bit worried about the dry conditions we’ve had lately – but God sent rain at just the right time!

What a great day!
