Day is done…

August 6, 2010

Day is done, gone the sun

From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies

All is well, safely rest

God is nigh (which means near)

The sun has set on the final night of Summer Camp 2010. Where did the last 7 weeks go!? Months and months of planning, prayer, and anticipation go into each summer, and before you know it, it’s gone – day is done. As a camp director, I am filled with many emotions as the summer draws to an end:

Thankfulness – I am thankful that God has given us such a wonderful place to come and worship Him during the summer.  I am thankful for an amazing staff, a great group of campers, and for the many many people who support camp in so many different ways. I am thankful for a safe summer in which no one was seriously injured. I am thankful that God has given me, and so many others, the opportunity through his grace and love to be  part of such a wonderful ministry at Camp Oak Hill.

Praise – I praise God for the way He has made Himself known this summer. His Spirit has been at work in the lives of so many campers, and the staff as well. We have witnessed the love of Christ change hearts and transform lives. God deserves all the praise for the great things that have happened here at camp this summer.

Sadness – I am always sad to see the summer end. Campers go home, and staff go home as well. The lively spirit and energy that fills camp during the summer is suddenly gone, and we’re left waiting eagerly for the next summer. It’s a feeling cured only by:

Anticipation – At the end of each summer, I find myself already getting excited for the next summer. There are so many ideas, so many plans, so many opportunities to make camp better and to continue making Christ known. The full-time staff wastes no time at the end of each summer getting ready for the next – each summer only gets better and better!

Youth Week has been awesome! This summer has been awesome! And all thanks and praise go to God. I can’t wait to see all the amazing things God has in store for  Camp Oak Hill over the next year, and for the summers to come. It is truly a blessing to be part of such a wonderful ministry.

And don’t worry…the blog isn’t going anywhere. If you haven’t done so, please subscribe so you can get all the updates as we post them throughout the years. Information on retreats, registration, summer camp, and all the latest happenings at Camp will be posted. So be sure to check back often!

Summer camp is over, but we aren’t skipping a beat – Hyland Heights Baptist Church arrives on Monday for what we call “retreat week” – a week where our staff will run activities, and the HHBC staff will run their own summer camp. From there, it’s on to more retreats, some much needed vacation time, and planning for all the great things to come!
