Village Baptist Week – Update #1!

June 21, 2010

We are SO EXCITED to have Village Baptist Church join us this week for summer camp! It is our first official week of the summer, and everyone here at Camp Oak Hill has been eagerly anticipating all the fun that is to happen this week.

The kids arrived safely Sunday afternoon just before 5pm, welcomed by a crowd of excited counselors. After check-in with the nurses, we all headed to the dining hall for dinner – Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, and cake! It was delicious.

After dinner we had our first evening program of the week – opening campfire! Opening campfire is a fun time of songs, skits, games, and preparation for the week ahead. We had a special performance by one of Village Baptist’s own, Chak Brewington, who composed an original song for the kids.  During the message, the kids learned about our theme (EPIC), and how important and great it is that we ALL have a part in God’s story, made possible through Jesus Christ.

Monday is well underway, and everyone is out and about enjoying the different activities and learning new skills. Tonight we plan to have a pool party, which is always a blast! (Belly-flop contest, anyone?)

One more thing to note – we are excited have some rising high school seniors join us this week for CAP (Counselor Assistant Program). They spent the weekend doing a service project in Raleigh, and are here this week learning what it means to be a servant leader while working with the kids this week.

Check back again this week for othe updates, and hopefully some pictures (and video!?) by the end of the week.

Hi Everyone! My two children are there this year with Village Baptist. I am from Illinois and I come to NC to go to Camp Oak Hill with my sister Becky Arneson and her children. I have came with my daughter Mikaela, who is 9 this year, for the past two years and was unable to make it this year. This is my son Mattias’ first year. They were both very sad that I was unable to come this year, but I know they will both have a great time just like Mikaela always has. If you happen to remember at meal time or camp fire, could you please make an announcement to them that I love them bunches and I hope they are having the best time ever and to take lots of pictures? Thanks a lot!

Hoorah for Camp Oak Hill and Pastor Nick. I am the mother of Destiny Jordan, who could not find her bag containing all her clothing for the week. After Pastor Nick’s call I was really unnerved by the fact my child would have to wear the same clothing all week. Well Pastor Nick and the wonderful counselors there were able to track down the missing clothing and all is well. Thanks to a wonderful staff and smoochies to my baby who is experiencing her first over night camp.
